"You Can't Trust Him"

So, a recap of the episode goes like this: Kristin, Alex H. and Jessica get massages (which looked so freakin relaxing I might add) then they go off on a ladies night out to Dave and Busters (that's a chain btw?). Alex H gets a hot guy's number and Jessica mopes the entire day/night because her boyfriend Jason sucks. Jason and Talon go surfing and a wave washes in Taylor and Alex #2, who invited the boys to the poker party. Which brings us to the poker party at Morgan #2's house. a) Girls don't know how to play poker. 2) Girls that do know how to play, or girls that pretend to know, play to either impress boys with their skills or to force themselves to strip b/c it's "part of the rules"...trust me I know. and C) Girls, especially high school girls, do not gather to play poker, no matter how good they are or how much they like it. Let's get real people! Either way the "poker night" went down and with a scare. Jason and Cedric the entertainer played a little prank on the girls. And speaking as a girl, those bitches did not act scared enough! If you're a girl in a house full of girls and absent of parental/authoritarian/male figures, and your alarm systems sounds and you find blood on the window, you are not going to run outside where the potential predators are lurking. Again, let's get real! LC and Stephen seemed to have had a late night sleepover, which ended in a romantically cute breakfast and a lot of smiling from both LC and myself. Finally, Jessica confronted Jason about his shadiness and after he raises his voice for a few minutes denying any and all accusations, she asks him to go to dinner. What?!? Then he tells her she has to drive separately. Forget the possibility of cheating, when your boyfriend doesn't even want to drive in the same car as you, you know you're in a bad state of the relationship and you know the guy's a dick. But, speaking as an equally insecure girl, Jessica, it's happened to the best of us.
So...LC and Stephen are bffs once again. Kristin, Alex H. and Jessica spend the whole episode bashing Jason (which was well-deserved) and the other snotty brats do a whole lot of screaming and boyfriend stealing.
As a final note, did anyone notice how hideously ugly Kristin is when she laughs, especially when she laughs in the dark?

At last, Laguna Beach is back! The trailer for the premiere aired following the Real World Austin season premiere, back on June 21st. I have been preparing for tonight ever since. The calendar was marked in bright pink marker. The ringtone was downloaded on my phone. I even got a date (yeah Boone) for the event! The amazing day that was today has come and gone. After a grueling 7 month hiatus, the Laguna gang is once again a part of our lives!
Though I was a tad upset with the opening credits--Kristin that snobby whore bitch got first billing! LC and Stephen were way too far into the credits for my liking. Plus Lo, Morgan, Christina, and Trey didn't even make the credits! It was full of new faces and names, much to my disliking. However, the show proceeded and was amazing. Even though I am a hardcore LC fan til my death, and even though I still hope she wins Stephen's heart over that heartless bioch, I do like Kristin this season. ONLY because the "new faces" seem to be the Kristins of this season, I can sense it already. So Talan is not too bad. But Jason? NOT THAT CUTE, I don't know what all the fuss is about. AND for him to be so apparently hot, his girlfriend Jess is not that hot either. I think Kristin's friend Alex (blonde Alex) is hot and Kristin is definitely hotter this season. Taylor is okay; Alex brunette is okay. Casey is a little too porn-star looking for my taste, but she looked pretty hot at that party that she threw. Okay and I need to see what this Matt looks like. He better be GORGEOUS for Kristin to have gone and ripped poor little Stephen's heart out of his chest for. Oh, and who takes a limo to the bowling alley? Can I please move to Laguna Beach and pretend to be still in high school? I totally could pass...I've got the Kelly Clarkson CD and the extra big sunglasses, all I need is like a few million dollars and some peroxide...maybe some day.
Until then, I can get lost in their world every Monday night at 10:00 p.m. I already can't wait until next week!! Let the rain fall down I'm coming clean...

Real World Takes On Austin

The next season of Real World will be taking place in Austin, Texas. This will be the 16th season of The Real World, the show that defined reality television. The cast includes 4 girls and 3 boys: Johanna (21), Lacey (23), Melinda (21), Rachel (22), Danny (21), Nehemiah (19), and Wes (20). The cast wraps up filming this week and the season is set to air on June 21st!! Check out more on the season and cast here.

Laguna Beach, Where Are You?

So, my MTV favorite show is Laguna Beach. It premiered on Tuesday, September 28, 2004, the day after my birthday, at 10:30 p.m. I remember seeing previews for it and feeling unconvinced that it was a show that I would like. I hadn’t watched the first episode because that week was my week from hell, at least as far as schoolwork was concerned. Because MTV tends to air re-runs a lot, I was lucky enough to catch the first episode before the second episode aired. It was instant love. I faithfully watched every episode for the remainder of the season. I had my favorite character, LC, the complete opposite of all of my friends who loved Kristin (LC's arch nemesis). I remember hating the anticipation leading up to the final episode--having to say goodbye to all the new "friends" that I made over the course of 3 months or so. And, then it was announced: there’d be a second season!!!
The previews were shown at the conclusion of the first season finale. LC, Lo, Christina, Morgan, Stephen, and Trey were all wrapped up in the college experience, while Kristin and Talan were now the seniors. LC in particular was struggling with the decision to stay in school in San Francisco or return to Laguna Beach. Kristin was living up her seniority back at Laguna High. However, a new girl at school and the bratty juniors were giving her a run for her money.
It has been almost five months since the finale and the second season previews and I don’t know how much longer I can take it! MTV generally has short intervals between seasons, usually around three months; this five month hiatus is just plain torturous. Hopefully, Laguna Beach will be back soon!

What’s Burning On The Inferno?

It’s been eight weeks now since the first episode of Inferno 2, and quite a lot has happened. There has been plenty of drama thus far. First, Tonya got mad at Beth for gossiping and decided to throw her belongings into the pool. Beth, in return, decided to try to throw the next mission so that her team would lose. Next, Abe flipped out at much of the cast for accusing him and Mike of having a secret alliance. Then, Karamo and CT had it out during a vote discussion. Karamo, certain that he’d be picked by the other team, wanted to vote for Landon, while CT wanted to vote for Mike. Karamo and CT subsequently had some words. Finally, the entire Bad Ass team ganged up on Jodi after they accused her of pulling a “shady” move. Jodi, vulnerable to confrontation, broke down in tears and couldn’t face the pressure.
So now that the drama is caught up, let’s review where each team stands. There have been eight missions and 4 infernos. After last night’s episode, the Good Guys have won 3 missions and the Bad Asses have won a total of 5. Each mission deposits $10,000 into the team’s bank, so the Good Guys have accumulated $30,000 and the Bad Asses have accumulated $50,000. The four infernos thus far have been as follows: John (Good Guys) vs. Dan (Bad Asses); Robin (Good Guys) vs. Tina (Bad Asses); Karamo (Bad Assess) vs. Landon (Good Guys); Jodi (Good Guys) vs. Veronica (Bad Asses). The losers of those matches were John, Robin, Karamo, and Jodi. So, the Good Guys, now a team of 7, include Mike, Landon, Brad, Darrell, Jamie, Julie, and Shavonda. The Bad Assess, who currently form a team of 8 after Beth voluntarily left the show, include Abe, CT, Derrick, Dan, Veronica, Rachel, Tina, and Tonya. Next week’s mission involves some intense heights and gets some intense emotions rolling due to those heights.

Famous Faces and Medical Places

The show, I Want A Famous Face, follows the journey of people that go through plastic surgery in order to look more like their favorite celebrities. Sometimes the surgery is minimal, and other times the patients receive five or more different surgeries at once. The people make the decision on their own to go through with this life-altering experience; MTV merely documents the process. Viewers meet the patients—they learn who they aspire to look like and what their reasoning is behind the transformation—and also hear the opinions of patients’ loved ones. Viewers go with the patients to the consulting appointment and then into the operation room. They get pretty explicit in what they show to the viewers as far as cutting and bleeding is concerned [I have to shut my eyes during this part]. Finally, viewers are with the patients through recovery and get to see the final product—usually, weeks or months have elapsed. So far this season we have met four patients—Brandi, Jennee, Jay, and Kelly—who have gone through with the procedure to look like Carmen Electra, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Arnold Schwarzenengger, and Jennifer Aniston, respectively. Next week, we meet a Crystal who hopes to look more like Britney Spears so that she can have the confidence to change careers from office clerk to professional stripper. Tune in to see the results of her transformation.

Following the Trail of ‘Trippin’

It’s quite amazing to see an actress like Cameron Diaz take such a passion in the wonders of life that have no material value in the new show Trippin. So far she and her different clans has traveled to Nepal, Bhutan, and Chile. Her and her squads have seen natural phenomenon like a desert with areas that have never had a drop of rain, forests and wetlands, and endangered animals of multiple species. They have also helped free crocodiles, bathed elephants, planted trees, and sheared sheep. They have sat with the local natives at each of their destinations and learned profound lessons about each culture, rituals, and environment. But, the celebs have still managed to have their fun—sandboarding, volleyball, archery, dancing, and feasting. So far, her fellow travelers have included Eva Mendez, Redman, Mark and Skye Hoppus, Drew Barrymore, Gucci Westman, Farnsworth Bentley, and Eric Koston. Stay tuned for updates on Cameron’s adventure and additions to the cast.

Hellos and Good-byes on the 10-Spot

The Osbournes never do anything quietly. Dr. Phil gets emotions rolling in the Osbourne mansion as the family says good-bye to America in the show’s finale. Nick and Jessica, America’s favorite newlyweds, celebrated a very sentimental Valentine’s Day before they packed up their memories and belongings in the show’s finale. After Ashlee Simpson received an adorable puppy from boyfriend and singer Ryan Cabrera and rocked a sold-out L.A. show, she ended her second season.
Monday night (March 28th) welcomed the premiere of Trippin, a new reality show in which actress Cameron Diaz and some of her celeb friends travel the globe to help raise awareness of key environmental issues. The group's first stop was Nepal where they encountered the wildlife and the children of the country. In the first episode of I Want A Famous Face, the show in which people go through plastic surgery to look more like their favorite celebrities, a 21-year old go-go dancer tries to transform into a Carmen Electra look-a-like. Beginning this week, America gets to meet a new, rougher newlywed couple in Meet the Barkers. The drummer of the band Blink-182 and a former Miss USA let us in on their life as a recently married couple.

Real World Says Good-bye to Philly

The season finale of Real World Philadelphia aired last week. The roommates spent most of their time packing, tying up loose ends of their friendships with each other, and hugging good-bye. The reunion show, which officially consummated the Philly season, aired this week. The roommates gathered together and answered questions posed by an MTV vee-jay and the audience and watched some never-before-seen clips of their time in Philly. MTV 10-Spot: Coming Soon

Making the Band 3: Diddy is back! This is P. Diddy’s third attempt at assembling a music group. This time around he is taking a different direction—an all-girl group. Almost 20 girls are selected to move in together in a NYC apartment. These girls will be asked to prove both their vocal and dancing prowess, while living and working in a highly competitive environment. Only time will bring out the catfights, the cuts, and the conquest, and the ultimate girl group will be the outcome.
Inferno 2: This is the newest chapter of the RW/RR Challenges. This time instead of putting Real Worlders up against Road Rulers, or putting guys up against girls, MTV is putting the “Bad Assess” up against the “Good Guys.” Viewers were able to log on and decide to which category challengers would be placed. BMX master Dave Mirra plays host this time around. The teams will face off in 15 challenges, after which each team selects a member of the opposite team to be sent to “The Inferno.” The Inferno is a special challenge for the two elected members to have a one-on-one face-off. The victor of this challenge gets to stay with their team and the loser is sent packing.
PoweR Girls: Lizzie Grubman, public relations guru, is giving four girls—Rachel, Kelly, Millie, and Ali—a shot at becoming a permanent member of Lizzie’s PR team. The girls will be given many PR responsibilities, including schmoozing with celebs and warding off paparazzi. While living up the glam of the job, they better also prove their marketing and public relations skills to Lizzie who will be watching their every move and deciding the who is the most PoweRful.

Real World/Road Rules (RW/RR) Challenges: Every so often, we get to see members from past seasons of Real World and Road Rules duke it out in a challenge. There have been many different spins on the challenge idea, including Battle of the Sexes, The Gauntlet, and The Inferno among others. Some of the more recent challenges have adopted the “Survivor” mentality of voting off the weakest link. However smart this may sound, the chosen isn’t always the weakest. Challengers form pacts with each other; sometimes the pacts are known to all and sometimes they aren’t revealed until the season is over and the winner is announced. Sometimes challengers do not select the weakest out of fear for their own continuity. But, either way, there is always intensity, whether it is during a mission or in the house.
Battle for Ozzfest: Concluding sometime late January or early February, Battle for Ozzfest allowed members from a handful of bands to compete for the chance to be a part of the next Ozzfest, an annual heavy metal concert. Like the RW/RR Challenge, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne voted weaker members off each week until only two remained. Then, Sharon and Ozzy left it up to the viewers to vote for the winner, American Idol style (although, this was an online poll, not a phone-in poll). Contestant Marc and his band A Dozen Furies claimed the victory and the spot on the venue for Ozzfest 2005.
Laguna Beach: The real Orange County. This is not your average soap opera, like "The OC", which airs Thursday nights on FOX—this is real life in the rich California county. These high school juniors and seniors, and, in the upcoming season, college freshmen, grace us loyal fans with the trials and tribulations of high school drama—parties, hook-ups, prom, birthdays, spring break in Cabo, and graduation. By day, the boys surf the waves and the girls surf the malls; by night, they are all gathered around a bonfire making memories. So in true Laguna spirit: Let the rain fall down…
Road Rules: Real World’s counterpart, Road Rules gathers six strangers for one wild road trip. Seasons have traveled all over the world—Australia, South America, and South Pacific, to name a few. Road Rulers are given missions that need to be accomplished in order to earn an income. Recent seasons have adopted the “Survivor” mentality of voting off the weakest link, if one exists; thus one season eliminated one member whereas another eliminated three. New members replace the eliminated until the road trip is completed and the Road Rules RV rolls to a stop.

Thursday Nights On The 10-Spot

Currently airing Thursday nights from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., each episode of MADE transforms a teenager into an identity that is far from that which at present defines him or her. The teen wants to be MADE into this new identity for some personal reason or another. MTV provides each teen with an appropriate “trainer” and documents the teen’s progress on a day-by-day basis. At the conclusion of the episode viewers find out if the teen MADE it or not.

Newlyweds
Currently airing Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m., Newlyweds, like The Osbournes, shows you what family life is like in Hollywood. Newlyweds Nick Lachey, one of the famous faces of the boy band 98°, and Jessica Simpson, famous solo pop singer, share with the audience what life is like after the big wedding and romantic honeymoon. We have shopped at Home Depot, ate tuna fish (or was that chicken fish?), attended Oktoberfest, and went under the needle (with eye surgery and root canal surgery) with them. Last season Nick and Jess added an addition to the family—Cacee, Jess’ new assistant. This season they have added another addition, and a much cuter and smaller one I might add—Daisy, the new puppy. I wonder what addition could be in store for next season…?

The Ashlee Simpson Show
Currently airing Wednesday nights at 10:30 p.m., The Ashlee Simpson Show takes viewers on a ride to see what life is like for a celebrity who is trying to make a name for herself that isn’t “Jessica Simpson’s little sister.” Ashlee tried the acting gig when she starred on 7th Heaven as Cecilia Smith, Simon’s girlfriend, from 2002-2004. But I guess that just didn’t cut it for her as she swung her career in a new direction—singing. After a lot of sore throats, break ups, and, hair dye, Ashlee is back for a second season of her reality television show which has one of her hit singles, “Autobiography,” introduce the program. This season, which began after the notorious SNL act, we have watched her move apartments, make up with Ryan Cabrera, and celebrate the big 2-0.

Tuesday Nights On The 10-Spot

The Real World
Currently airing Tuesday nights at 10:00 p.m., The Real World is a “true story of seven strangers, picked to live in a house and have their lives taped, and find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting REAL”(www.mtv.com/onair/realworld). Over the years since 1992, viewers have traced the lives of these groups of 7 strangers as they have graced cities all across America and even overseas. Seasons have seen cast members like David (Los Angeles) and Puck (San Francisco) get kicked off; other cast members leave voluntarily like Justin (Hawaii) and Frankie (San Diego); and yet others struggle with major problems like Ruthie's (Hawaii) battle with alcoholism. After 13 years and 15 seasons, we are now watching this most recent group—Karamo, Landon, Melanie, MJ, Sarah, Shavonda, and Willie—take on Philadelphia. With only a few more weeks left in the season, who knows what could go down?

My Super Sweet 16
Currently airing Tuesday nights at 10:30 p.m., My Super Sweet 16 documents the planning, preparing, and participation of and in 16th birthday parties. Select teens are followed around as they hand out invitations, pick a location, decide on music and decorations, choose the perfect outfit, and plan out the perfect arrival, as they battle with their parents regarding money the whole time. Then, we get to see the party go down and decide if it was a success or not. The season, which had its finale this week, was 6 episodes in length and probably an accumulation between the 6 families of $2 million spent.

Cribs
Currently airing Monday nights at 10:00 p.m., Cribs gives you a superficial tour of celebrity homes, inside and out. The celebs range from athletes to actors to rappers and rockers to models. Walking through the house, the celebs showcase the luxuriously decorated rooms; taking you outside, the celebs flaunt their cars, pools, basketball courts, and gorgeous views. Male viewers might “ooh” and “aah” at the suped-up gyms or pimped-out cars; female viewers might “ooh” and “aah” at the walk-in closets equal to or surpassing the size of their own [the viewers’] bedrooms.

The Osbournes
Currently airing Monday nights at 10:30 p.m., The Osbournes is a way to reassure ourselves that no matter how crazy we think our families are, they could be like the Osbournes! The show stars Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly, and Jack, and who could forget the plethora of animals, specifically dogs. Also, there are the many assistants, trainers, and friends of the family that seem to inhabit the Osbourne mansion as well. But where is the third Osbourne child? Last season we saw Sharon struggle with her TV talk show and Ozzy is injured after falling from his all-terrain vehicle. This season has seen a family trip to Hawaii, Kelly struggling with a drug addiction, and an appearance by Sir Elton John, as if things weren’t colorful enough already.

The 10-Spot: The Introduction

The 10-Spot is the hour between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Some of MTV’s finest television airs on the 10-Spot. MTV was one of the pioneers of reality television with the advent of The Real World in 1992. Thus, many of its shows today are reality-based. But unlike other reality television, MTV has had the first mover advantage and continues to produce quality, not trashy, reality television shows that viewers actually enjoy and can relate to—or at least imagine (as in the case of Cribs). Following this post, I will begin to introduce you to all of the shows that currently comprise the 10-Spot as well as some other shows that are currently on their “off” season. Stay tuned and pretty soon you won’t only want, but need your MTV!
